Adventure travellers

Adventure travellers by definition are at higher risk than most of having an accident or illness as a result of their trip.

They are for example more likely to potentially expose themselves to non-vaccine preventable illness by climbing to altitude, rafting in rivers, swimming in lakes and trekking distances from reliable health care.

We can help keep you healthy while you enjoy doing that which you do. As well as the full range of vaccines, we also tailor self treatment medication kits to meet the needs of your itinerary, provide preventative medication to assist with acute mountain sickness and of course offer follow up consultations on return for those who need it.

For those travelling to South America or Africa we are also a licensed Yellow Fever vaccination clinic.

FAQ's

  • When should I make an appointment?

If you have time then 6 - 8 weeks before you leave is perfect. If its closer than that already, we suggest booking in as soon as possible.

Travelling at short notice? Its never too late to come and get advice, but an impending departure date may influence other factors, such as what vaccines you can have for example.

  • Do I need to bring anything with me?

Bring along your itinerary if you have one, but we can also tailor advice to broad itineraries if your trip is relatively unplanned.

Don't forget to bring along old vaccination records. It saves you time and money if we know what you have already had.

  • How long do the consultations take?

Our standard consultations take around 30 minutes with the doctor if we are seeing you for the first time for this trip. You can expect to be in the clinic for around an hour if also having vaccinations. It will be longer if you are coming as part of a family or group. Please take this into consideration when planning your appointment.

  • Is there a fee?

As long as your trip isn't business related, costs associated with an appointment at Travel Health Plus are similar to visiting a general practice.
If you have a Medicare card - children and university students have no out of pocket consultation fees. For everyone else there is a one off gap on an initial consultation, with no further out of pocket consultation expense on subsequent visits for the same trip. This does not include travel vaccinations which are generally not covered by Medicare.
If you don't have a Medicare card our staff are happy to explain costs to you in more detail.
