South Africa – Rabies Increase

Following an ongoing outbreak of dog rabies, South African authorities are reporting a significant increase in human rabies cases in some provinces. 14  cases have been confirmed since January.  Rabies is almost always fatal if contracted and depending on itinerary, a course of vaccinations prior to travel may be recommended. Anyone  bitten, scratched, or licked by a dog,  bat or other mammal, should seek urgent medical attention.
